Social media users blasted Target for their racially insensitive American Greetings card and the company quickly withdrew the item off their shelves.

One of the largest retail chains in the U.S. took consumers by surprise after discovering a stereotypical Father’s Day card that pictured a Black couple with the words “Baby Daddy” on the cover.

Takeisha Saunders, a Facebook user, was disappointed by Target’s decision to sale the card and wrote on her social media account, “You CANNOT be serious Target!!!! Really!!!?!!!!? This was the only Father’s Day card that featured a black couple!!!!!![IMG][IMG][IMG] #OurVoicesReally #NotMyNarrative #HowAboutHusband #HowAboutLove #HowAboutJustDad.”

One Twitter user who goes by LiciaYvette posted, “Seriously [Target]??? Baby Daddy is not a term of endearment. This is an insult to Black fathers and a slap in the face to the African-American community as a whole. There are plenty of Black men that are EXCELLENT FATHERS, not ‘baby daddies’!!!”

The department retailer released an apology and vowed to pull the card from 900 Target stores out of the 1800 they’re being sold at.

Target’s spokesperson Joshua Thomas stated to Fox News, “We want all guests to feel welcomed and respected when they shop at Target. We were made aware of some concerns about this card last week and are working with our vendor to have it removed from Target stores. We appreciate the feedback and apologize. It’s never our intent to offend any of our guests with the products we sell.”

However, shoppers are still confused as to how the company could be so oblivious to the offensive term.

@amgreetings how in the hades did this past muster in ur org? Let me guess…Zero Diversity. I suppose a pic of Trump surrounded by Ivanna, Marla & Melania was not an option, huh?@Target, demand more of ur partners! Don't let them bring you down.

@Target y'all REALLY do need black people at the table when making these decisions. Being a "Baby Daddy" isn't a good thing!!

@Target this is one of many reasons why police dont hesitate to shoot us down with out warrant. Because they also see men of color as only baby daddies. Not Fathers, husbands, or men. Just baby Daddies.

Good call TARGET to take #BabyDaddy card off shelves as option that visibly displays black couple. Oh trust, we have KINGS, HUSBANDS, FATHERS, DADS, MY LOVE's and could go on and on for Father's Day and everyday. Thank you [IMG] pic.twitter.com/5l8DyxGRI3
